Year 11 & 12 Students

"The Polytechnic helped me find the right path and now I have an apprenticeship"
Brady Shuttler

Planning your years 11 and 12?

During year 10 you will work with your teachers and Pathway Planner to gather information about possible careers, explore options relevant to your interests and ability and plan how you might achieve your personal and career goals. Explore more options with the PY10 Course guide

A week at the Polytechnic

If you are starting at the Polytechnic in Year 11 or 12, you will have a diverse and interesting full-time program. This will include foundation or training courses with 2-3 days contact time each week, plus any other courses that you have chosen.

The time available for you to spend in the training courses will depend on whether you need any additional support in reading, writing, maths or computing to get to the level you need to achieve your certificate.

What sort of student are you?

Campuses at Hobart, Newstead, Don and Hellyer are ‘home bases' for students in Year 11 and 12 in 2009.

Because each of these are dual campuses for the Tasmanian Academy and the Tasmanian Polytechnic, a huge range of education courses will be available at each site.

You will be able to take advantage of training opportunities at your home campus which have never been available before, as well as being able to access training courses at any of the campuses within your region.

“I want to be an event caterer. Mum wanted me to go to university but then she saw how good VET was and how happy I was – I want to get into the workforce, but I can also go to university later if it wanted to. I will have a qualification as well as my TCE!"Kasey Walsh
