Counselling & Support Services
As a Polytechnic student you will have access to free, confidential counselling so you can achieve a successful outcome.
Our professional and experienced counsellors can help you in many areas. Do you need help in:
- Motivation, concentration, procrastination or confidence in participating in groups;
- Decision making – maybe you’re wondering if you should leave the course or take a job?
- Relationship – conflict or difficulties with classmates, teachers or family;
- Health – drug and/or alcohol, eating and sleep disorders;
- Emotional – anxiety, depression, stress, grief and loss
- Crisis or trauma – violence, harassment, accommodation;
- Gender and/or sexuality issues;
- Referral to other services, such as legal, medical, accommodation or financial.
They can also help you with
- Clarifying your options and directions;
- Career development or change;
- Choosing an achievable study load for a balanced lifestyle.
- How to express & resolve concerns regarding harassment, discrimination and assessment appeals
- Information on financial benefits and assistance and fee payment management;
- Information on Commonwealth financial assistance in regard to study.

Computerised Career Search
Want to answer a series of questions relating to your interests and life experiences to gain a map to possible career choices?
Career Voyage by JigCal can provide fresh ideas that can be developed. Users find it fun! It is an excellent starting point for further discussion and research with a Career Adviser

Adult Migrant English Program (AMEP)
The Tasmanian Polytechnic provides adult migrant English classes for newly arrived migrants in Tasmanian.
Adult Migrant English Program (AMEP) (text only version)
Specifically for adult migrants and refugees the program provides up to 510 hours of assistance and training in English.
To take part you must register within 3 months of arriving in Australia and begin classes within 12 months

To see if you are eligible call us on 1-300-665-307. We will need your Australian visa number and personal details to check your entitlement.
If you are eligible you will have an interview with an enrolling teacher to assess your level of English, enrol in the program and courses, develop a suitable learning plan and provide you with a start date.
